Why invent TidyTilt?
We want to detangle the headphone cord predicament that so many of us face.
We love the functionality of a kickstand for watching video, but desire something that doesn't have to be carried separately from our iPhones. We want to be able to instantly mount our iPhones to various surfaces, but don't want bulky suction cups or holsters. Most of all, we want our earbuds to be tangle-free and ready for use at all times.
TidyTilt helps out in all three of these areas: it folds into a kickstand that can be positioned in landscape or portrait orientations; mounts iPhone or earbuds to any magnet-responsive surface; and offers a removable, always-ready headphone cord holder to keep wires tangle-free and easily accessible.
We conducted ethnographic user research to study the behaviors of iPhone headset users. Many told us how they regularly stuff their wired earbuds into a bag or pocket, only to have to detangle them later. Others showed us how they wrapped the cord around their iPhones to keep their headphones close-at-hand. Too bad doing so covers the phones touchscreen. TidyTilt keeps headphone cords tidy without blocking your screen!
TidyTilt can also be positioned to act as a 'seesaw,' enabling head-to-head 2-player gaming, opening up new app development possibilities.
We built and tested dozens of prototypes before settling on TidyTilt‘s final design. Using rapid prototyping techniques such as laser cutting, we were able to quickly make modifications and test impact of our changes.
The result: TidyTilt takes up less space than a typical cord wrap, stand, or mount, yet does all three things - without adding something extra to carry. It’s the perfect companion for iPhone.
